Grenada Cricket Classics 2008, October 9-16

The Grenada Cricket Classics is an annual event which has grown in popularity since it was first staged in 2004. The focus of the week is on the two clashes between cricketing legends of England and the West Indies where these great names of the past do battle in two limited overs matches.

Former adversaries such as Allan Lamb, Derek Randall, John Emburey & co take on the legendary heroes of Caribbean cricket like Joel Garner, Curtly Ambrose, Richie Richardson and ‘The King’ Sir Viv Richards. Make no mistake – old rivalries are still as strong as ever and these former heroes do everything possible to put one over their old enemies.

All those who enjoyed the 2007 Classics will remember the sight of Garner and Ambrose steaming in with the new ball against Randall and Lamb: the timeless craft of John Emburey and the thrilling strokeplay of Phil Simmons, and the catch of the series from ‘Arkle’ Randall was truly unforgettable.

The cricket is obviously the centrepiece of the week but the Cricket Classics has much more to offer than the on-the-field contests. Players, fans, wives and girlfriends join together to enjoy all that is best about the Caribbean and the week is full of opportunities for the whole party to socialise together at a series of events.

There are parties in the evenings of both matches and nobody from the 2007 trip will forget the wonderful night at True Blue Bay where Curtly Ambrose and his famous band entertained 300 people at a reggae and rum punch party under the stars. In 2008 the week will include a traditional beach barbecue as well as a question and answer session with the former test stars.

As well as the organised events there is ample opportunity for guests to explore the many delights of Grenada – the Spice Island. We will be offering island tours, trips to the spice farms and rum distilleries, golf and sailing – or just take a jeep and a map and explore this beautiful island yourself.
