Updated report by Just Grenada Managing Director Gerry Copsey
First, can I say the most sincere thank you to each and every one of you who donated to the appeal for your incredible generosity.
We launched the appeal to give our clients a way in which to target their aid to specific projects and people on the island. The astonishing level of your donations has enabled us to distribute funds far and wide – quite simply you have helped change lives.
The fund is still open: click on the appeal fund latest link below see how much has been raised so far and how to send a donation.

Here are the main projects that we have been able to help with:
Anglican High School, St George's We have been delighted to send a substantial donation to help with the rebuilding of this school, which has more than 600 students. Principal Madeleine Baptiste and her staff have done an incredible job running this school in recent months in damaged classrooms and temporary tented accommodation.
Just Grenada has managed to send enough money to assist with the equipping of the school's computer centre and also the rebuilding of the science laboratory. This donation is part of our ongoing commitment to help in the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Grenada, which continues to make wonderful progress.

Bel Air Home We have made a substantial donation to help with the repairs to the home which was so badly damaged. The staff did an incredible job throughout the crisis and every child was cared for as usual. Some of the staff who had lost their own homes refused to leave their jobs at the home to ensure that no child was put at risk.

Tour guides Your generosity has enabled Christopher McDonald (Mac) and Donnaree Powell to obtain the materials they need to rebuild their homes. Meeting them was extremely moving and tears we shed on both sides. Mac's letter to you all reads:
"Our heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone of you for your help to our beautiful island and special thanks to those who contributed to our family. We received copies of your letters and they made us cry. Thank you with all our hearts for your concern and for your gift which will help us so much with our rebuilding. May God bless you all richly for ministering to us and to the people of Grenada."
Christopher McDonald and family.
Hotel workers Because of your amazing generosity we were able to discuss schemes with hotel owners to assist members of their staff who were the most seriously affected by the hurricane. We heard of some great tragedies and distress but were much heartened by the very constructive and supportive approach of the hoteliers towards their staff. These staff are the people who have helped our clients over the years and they are very representative of the working people of the island.
True Blue Bay Russ & Magdalena Fielden are setting up a scheme to help staff with deposits, building materials and advice to enable the most badly hit to be rehoused. More details of this on their website (www.truebluebay.com) in Magdalena's letter dated November 26th. We were delighted to make a significant contribution to their fund.
Lance aux Epines Cottages This is an amazing story! Tim Braithwaite who owns the cottages recruits a team from St Lucia to repair his damaged buildings. This team of seven worked 14 hours each day without a break for five weeks to complete the work. They slept in a one-bedroomed cottage without electricity or hot water. Tim threw a party for them and his staff at the end of the job and made a speech of thanks but was astonished with their response. The St Lucians had formed such bonds of friendship and respect for Tim's staff that they have all decided to take a holiday in the New Year and visit Grenada to help staff rebuild their homes free of charge. Tim will pay for their flights and find them accommodation and Tim's relief fund will pay for materials for those most in need. I am delighted to say that Just Grenada clients will have paid for a large proportion of the materials.
La Sagesse Mike Meranski has opened an account at the hardware suppliers to help his most impoverished staff and again we have been able to contribute to the fund.
Blue Horizons & Spice Island The Hopkin family thank you all for the donation we were able to make to their staff relief fund.
Petit Bacaye Julia Montgomery accepted a cheque with sincere thanks for the support we were able to give to one of her staff in particular who had suffered very badly in the hurricane.

In addition to the funds we were able to distribute to hotel staff funds as described above we were also able to track down specific individuals to whom some of you had asked us to direct particular donations.
We passed on your gifts to:

The fund goes on growing and we will continue to send every penny raised to areas where we think the aid can be best used. Your efforts were featured on the main news programme of Grenada TV and thanks were expressed from many quarters.
You will be pleased also to hear that there is much evidence of huge aid from the UK Government as well as the peoples of many different countries. In addition there has been physical help from squads of volunteers and soldiers from Venezuela, Trinidad, St Vincent, St Lucia, Barbados and many many more places.
Finally Mike Meranski, the owner of La Sagesse, has written and recorded an amazing song on DVD which has extensive footage of Hurricane Ivan and also incredibly of Hurricane Janet in 1955. This song “Walk with me” can be purchased for £7 incl p&p from Just Grenada – needless to say all proceeds go straight to the island.
We thank you with all our hearts for the fantastic support you have given to our appeal – for your letters, your cards and also for your personal good wishes to us at Just Grenada.

Since launching the appeal, we have overwhelmed with the generosity of our clients. Cheques large and small have been flooding in to our office and the fund stands at £29,000!
We are clearly going to be able to make a huge difference to the future lives of some of the homeless people in Grenada and we are already making plans for the distribution of funds.
Of course, we still need more money so if you are able to spare a donation please send a cheque to the fund at the address below. We are deeply grateful to all those who have supported the appeal so far – please keep an eye on this website for updated news of how the money raised is being spent.
If you wish to contribute to the disaster appeal, you can send donations to us at Just Grenada, making cheques payable to Just Grenada Hurricane Appeal. Send the cheques to us at:
